Candle Safety & Maintenance Tips

• Never leave a burning candle unattended.
• Keep away from flammable materials like curtains or bedding.
• Keep out of reach of children and pets.
• Place on a heat-resistant surface while burning.
• Trim wicks to 1/4 inch before each burn. Keeping a short wick helps extend the candle’s life, minimizes soot, and ensures optimal performance.
• For the first burn, allow the candle to melt fully across the surface (about 3-4 hours) to prevent tunneling.

Additional Candle Care

• Avoid drafts to prevent uneven burning and excess soot.
• Let candles cool completely before relighting to maintain wax quality and fragrance.
• Use a candle snuffer to extinguish flames cleanly, reducing smoke and keeping the wick in optimal condition.
• Stop burning at 1/2 inch of remaining wax to prevent vessel overheating and extend the jar’s usability for refills.
• Store candles in a cool, dry place and out of direct sunlight to preserve fragrance. Keeping the lid on when not in use helps maintain scent strength.

Preventing and Fixing Candle Tunneling
Tunneling occurs when the wax doesn’t melt to the container’s edges, creating a narrow “tunnel” around the wick. This often happens if the candle’s first burn is too short, as it “sets the memory” of the wax. To prevent tunneling, always let your candle burn until the melted wax reaches all sides of the container—typically 3-4 hours. If tunneling does appear, it can usually be corrected by burning the candle in a candle holder or gently wrapping aluminum foil around the top edge, which helps even out the wax melt.
